Michael Johnson
PIMCO Municipals
Mr. Johnson is an executive vice president and head of business management for PIMCO Municipals. He is also head of the Solana Beach and Chicago offices. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2021, he was chief risk officer for Gurtin Municipal Bond Management, a PIMCO company, and a member of Gurtin’s investment committee. Prior to joining Gurtin in 2008, Mr. Johnson was the director and head of municipal credit and head of the banking and insurance credit teams at Merrill Lynch & Co. in New York. Mr. Johnson began his financial services career as a public finance credit analyst at Moody’s Investors Service, where he later served as the co-manager of Moody’s Midwest regional office. He has 26 years of investment experience and holds a master’s degree in urban policy analysis and management from the New School for Public Engagement’s Milano School of International Affairs, Management and Urban Policy (formerly the New School for Social Research) and an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Riverside.
